The small card to Comenius

Due to our project eTwinning Nosa cultura Our culture”, we have found new friends from Portugal and we have learned a lot about life in the European Union. We have exchanged useful information connected with their and our homeland. We have learned about their customs and traditions and about their traditional dishes. Working with the Smart board in class gave us lots of interesting ideas as for the presentation of the educational topics, and for the card we have prepared for the competition. Thus life in school changed, now it is more interesting and fun. eTwinning projects are a challenge in school. They bring creation and new spirit in the school educative process.

Martenitsa

The name of our school is IX Primary School Panayot Volov. It is situated in Shumen and boasts 160 years since its foundation. We are lucky to say that our school is one of the first schools in the history of the Bulgarian education. Today we are proud of its traditions and we take care of its present state. There are 12 updated classrooms, a gym and a highly motivated pedagogical staff. The number of our students is 324 and we, the teachers, are 30. The languages that students learn at present are English, German and Russian. There are three ethnical groups of students – mostly Bulgarian and less Turkeys and Gypsies. There are also students with special educational needs among them.
We live in a town situated in the colourful valley of Shumensko Plateou in the north-east part of Bulgaria, near the river Danube and the Black Sea in the eastern part of Stara Planina mountain. Shumen is one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria, dating back to over 3200 years. There are historical monuments in our region from ancient times till nowadays. Near Shumen there are situated the two first Bulgarian capitals – Pliska and Veliki Preslav and the religious center Madara.
We gave a name to our school – A fairy tale. Come and visit us and we will show you and tell you this fairy tale. We are sure that we can reach everywhere because we go straight forward! With the accomplishment of this project we would like to present our traditions and customs which are the cultural heritage of our nation and to learn more about other national cultures in the Common European House. We will work actively about the slogan of the Komenski Programme “ The art of teaching everyone everything “.

Bulgaria,Shumen

Shumen (Bulgarian: Шумен) is a city in the northeastern part of Bulgaria, capital of Shumen Province. The city lies 80 km west of Varna and is built within a cluster of hills, northern outliers of the eastern Balkans, which curve round it on the west and north in the shape of a horse-shoe. A rugged ravine intersects the ground longitudinally within the horse-shoe ridge. From Shumen roads radiate northwards to the Danubian cities of Rousse and Silistra and to Dobruja, southwards to the passes of the Balkans, and eastwards to Varna and Balchik. Shumen has, therefore, been one of the most important military positions in the Balkan Peninsula.
